When ductile iron is the right choice
In ductile iron the graphite forms round nodules instead of flakes. That gives it much higher tensile strength and the ability to stretch before it breaks, so it takes impact and bending loads that would crack gray iron. It can often replace fabrications and steel castings at a lower cost.
Short runs and prototypes
Many ductile iron jobs are small: a prototype to prove a design, a few replacement parts, or a limited production run. We are set up for exactly that, from a single piece to 500 per run, with pattern storage and maintenance so repeat orders are simple.
How we make them
No-bake, air-set sand molds, MAGMA simulation before the first pour, stress relieving and annealing in house, chemical analysis and mechanical property verification, and full traceability and certification.
What to send for a quote
- A drawing or 3D model (PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES), or photos and measurements of the part
- Material and grade, if you know it
- Quantity per run, and roughly how many a year
- Whether you need it as-cast or ready for machining, and any testing or certification

Frequently asked questions
What ductile iron specifications do you pour?
We pour ductile iron to ASTM A536, and MEEHANITE® ductile iron as a licensed MEEHANITE® foundry. Put the grade on your drawing or quote request.
Can you make a single ductile iron prototype?
Yes. Our runs start at one piece, and rapid prototyping is one of our core services.
How large can a ductile iron casting be?
We pour castings up to 2,000 lbs.
